Public nominations open for new SANParks board members

The Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment Dion George has issued a public call for nominations of suitable individuals to be considered for appointment to the board of South African National Parks (SANParks). The nominations will be made in accordance with Section 59 of the National Environmental Management: Protected Areas Act No. 57 of 2003.

Nominations must include a detailed curriculum vitae outlining the nominee’s qualifications, areas of expertise, residential and contact information, academic certificates, previous board service and two contactable referees. Confirmation of the nominee’s availability to serve is also required.

Board members will be appointed based on their collective ability to support SANParks objectives. Expertise is sought in the fields of biodiversity and conservation management, tourism development, corporate governance, financial management, legal compliance, information technology, stakeholder engagement, marketing and related disciplines.

Appointees will serve in their personal capacities for a three-year term beginning October 1 and ending September 30. The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment has indicated that preference will be given to nominees who will enhance representativity on the board.

The closing date for submissions is May 13.
