‘Star bed’ attraction opens in Northern Cape

A new outdoor sleeping experience has launched at the Tswalu Kalahari Reserve in the Northern Cape, offering guests the option to sleep under the stars in the Korannaberg Mountains.

The star bed, ‘Naledi’ – the Tswana word for ‘star’ – is designed as a romantic sleep-out experience for adults, but is also ideal for a family of four. Children are welcome, but at the discretion of the guide.

The Naledi sleep-out experience has camping stretchers with extra throws and blankets on hand. Nearby is an open-air shower, basin, and toilet.

A private guide will leave guests with a handheld radio in case assistance is required during the night.

Guests will receive a cold picnic-style dinner, followed by snacks in the morning with coffee, tea or hot chocolate.

The star bed does not need to be booked in advance and is subject to availability and prevailing weather conditions.

Tswalu Kalahari has also redesigned Tarkuni Lodge. The five double guest bedrooms have been altered to accommodate more natural light and outdoor showers.
